The other day I read a post by someone who was cautioning abuse survivors and advocates to be careful that they are not of a demonic spirit when they were speaking out against church leaders who protect offenders and do little to help victims. This person was concerned that Satan might be using these survivors and advocates to help to destroy ministries.
I have news for this person and all those who are of this same opinion. If a ministry is destroyed, it will be God who destroys it and not Satan. It will be because of the evil that is perpetrated and protected in these ministries that God destroys them….not because the oppressed are crying out.
That doesn’t mean that Satan doesn’t do everything he can to bring down ministries, he does. But the way he does it is the same way he corrupted the garden of Eden….he entices mankind to sin. It is the sexual predator that carries out Satan’s desire. It is the enablers and protectors of offenders that see to that this evil never gets exposed or dealt with.
Consider a few passages of scripture.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Jesus makes it clear that the gates of hell can not prevail against the church. Satan has no power against the church in the same way that he had no power against Adam and Eve. The one thing he could do was to temp them to sin. Satan tempted, Adam and Eve sinned but it was God who destroyed. God brought a curse upon all creation because of Adam and Eve’s sin.
The same pattern is true today in regards to the church. Satan has found something that people are willing to sell their soul for….sexual sin. He specializes in using children and vulnerable adults, because they are easy prey. It is the offenders and their protectors that are evil….not the wounded and oppressed who cry out. Why can’t so many Christians see what is so obvious?
When the Jews were slaves in Egypt, were they evil for crying out in their pain and suffering? When their baby boys were being slaughtered, were they the ones that were wrong for crying out in their agony and grief? Is it the abuse victims who are wrong for crying out? Is wrong for them to ask for justice? Let’s consider another passage. Revelation 6:9-11
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
Notice that God does not rebuke them for asking for justice or even vengeance. He reassures them that one day it will come.
So many Christians are uncomfortable with the cries of the victims of abuse but they have little or no discomfort allowing an abuser to attend their church, where they have easy access to victims. It makes no sense.
Let’s go back to the thought that it will be God who destroys the churches or ministries and not Satan. Revelation 2
Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Jesus tells this church that because they had lost their first love that He was going to come and remove their candlestick. How much more will Jesus hold churches accountable who protect those who rape and molest children!
The church today is in big trouble and Satan will be the least of their concerns, because it will be God who is coming with a drawn sword in His hand.
